Mothers and babies are at the heart of all we do at Hip Baby Wrap, a small women-owned business in Miami, Florida. As a mom, I wanted our goods to reflect my enthusiasm for keeping babies' well-being. How did we get our start?
I started babywearing when my first child was a few days old because it was the only way to keep her content and happy. I was never very happy with the products I used, so I started making wraps and slings when my second child was born, as I could not find a sling or wrap made from the right fabric. They were either too stretchy, too stiff or too hot, and I also couldn't find any designs I liked.
What makes our products unique? Our slings and wraps are specially woven for babywearing, with fabrics that will not stretch over time and hold the baby firmly in place, yet have just the right amount of give to be easy to put on and comfortable to wear. They are all individually handwoven and hand-dyed with plant-based dyes, and made from 100% natural fibers, making them breathable, comfortable, and lightweight.
Why do we love what we do? I am very passionate about babywearing and strongly believe in its benefits. When a baby can see the world from where their parents do, rather than from far below like in a stroller, their senses are stimulated, and their attention is engaged while feeling safe and secure. This extra stimulation benefits brain development, and the baby quickly develops a sense of security and trust when carried close in a baby wrap or sling.
Our wraps and slings are individually handmade in cooperatives under fair trade practices in India, supporting communities in small villages and providing jobs for mothers and families to work out of their homes. Our products are made with non-toxic, plant-based dyes, locally sourced high-grade cotton, and electricity-free manufacturing.
